Dr. Jeckyll & Mr. Hyde – Jeckyll And Hyde Dance
Rojac Records (US) [RJ 6200] 1981
After appearing as part of the Harlem World Crew in 1980 this was Andre Harrell and Alonzo Brown’s debut release as a group. “Jeckyll And Hyde Dance” is a fairly forgettable rap track with a 60’s soul sounding backing but the main reason to purchase this is the old school disco rap track “Doing The Do” on the B side.
The record was reissued in 2008 in a reprinted Rojac sleeve just like the original but there are a few differences to tell them apart. The main parts of the original label are red and salmon pink but on the reissue the pink is beige. They both have two press rings but the reissue is a lot cleaner looking. Also the text is positioned very slightly differently. On the original the word published on the right is practically touching the white line but on the reissue it isn’t. If in doubt, check the runout grooves. The original has a symbol of a pyramid in a circle which isn’t on the reissue. Also the reissue has KH MCR written on the runout groove which isn’t on the original.
Please note that there is no year on the label. According to other sources it was released in 1982. In 1981 they were signed to Profile and released Genius Rap so I doubt this was released after that. The track with Harlem World was their debut in 1980 so I’m guessing this was released after that in the same year or 1981 before they were on Profile. I’ve listed it as 1981 but please correct me if I’m wrong.
