Sha Rock & Lisa Lee w/DJ Jazzy Jay – Recorded Live At Stevenson High School, Bronx, NY, 1981

Rock The Discotek Records (UK) [RTDT001] 2018

Second in the ‘My Heroes On Stamps’ series sees the live recording of legendary female emcee’s Sha-Rock and Lisa Lee at Stevenson High School 1981 with DJ Jazzy Jay.

It was edited and remastered by Jorun Bombay for Rock The Discotek Productions and released on vinyl as a 7″ in 2018. Just like the first release on the label, it was issued complete with stamps for each MC on the sleeve and stamped/cancelled with a ‘My heroes on stamps’ postmarked. Note that the catalogue number seems to represent the first release on the label but this was actually the second.

The two emcee’s rap over the classic breakbeat ‘Seven Minutes Of Funk’ by The Whole Darn Family, as also used by many others including EPMD for ‘It’s My Thing’ and Jay-Z for ‘Ain’t No N*gg*’. The flip side features an edit of the original break with added live instrumentation from Chris Cookson, Forrest Dank and Sean Weber.
