Spring Records (US) [SP-D-402] 1979
Widely regarded as the first rap record on vinyl, soul funk group Fatback Band released “King Tim III” a few weeks prior to the Sugarhill Gang’s debut as a B side track although according to some people “Rapper’s Delight” was first. Who knows exactly? Either way it contributed to the birth of hip hop on vinyl.
There are a few label variations which are pictured below plus a promo with just “King Tim III” which was released due to the low position of the original release in the charts and resulted in a much higher chart position.
