Miraj (Charles ‘Chuck’ McPherson Jr.) is the son of alto jazz saxophonist, Charles McPherson, who recorded many albums for the likes of Prestige, Mainstream Records, and more and has been a member of jazz groups such as The Barry Harris Quintet, Charles Mingus Sextet, Lionel Hampton & His All Star Alumni Big Band plus his own Charles McPherson Group.
Chuck was briefly part of Sugarhill’s in-house band until his career took him to the studios of Broccoli Rabe Records where he ventured into the world of rap with his only release for the label under the recording name, Miraj. In The Pocket was written and produced by himself with some additional help from Brian Drago, Jimmy Bralower, and Lee Shapiro (The Four Seasons) aka The Broc Team.
He also recorded for Clockwork Records as Shahid (1984 Future Shock) and produced the track, For You My Baby Love for The Gents, a group that morphed into the 90’s R&B group Today with Teddy Riley.
