Gravediggaz – 6 Feet Deep (2LP Gatefold Sleeve) [HHC HHC2050]
Gravediggaz, the pioneers of Horrorcore, emerged during a challenging phase in their careers. The group included Prince Paul, a renowned producer, who was exploring darker beats due to career uncertainty. He enlisted RZA, a rising producer, previously frustrated by label experiences but destined to lead The Wu-Tang Clan.
They also brought in Frukwan, Paul’s former Stetsasonic colleague, and Too Poetic, a promising MC who had generated underground buzz with the Brothers Grym before his tragic death from colon cancer. Together, they adopted alter egos like The Undertaker (Paul) and The Grym Reaper (Too Poetic) to form Gravediggaz.
In their album “6 Feet Deep,” Gravediggaz blended horror imagery, dark humor, and satire to express their frustrations with the hip-hop industry. Tracks like “Diary of a Madman,” “Nowhere to Run, Nowhere to Hide,” and “1-800 Suicide” provided a fresh perspective on street life for the black community. Most of the production was handled by Paul, with RZA contributing to a few tracks.
This pressing of the album is highly esteemed and comes in a premium gatefold jacket.
