D.S.M. is an acronym for Devastating Street Music and also represented the artists involved…Danny Poku, Shaun Williams and Mambo Sharma.
Shaun was an accomplished jazz dancer before becoming a popular DJ in the early 80s in the Midlands. Together with DJ Dave Till, he started the legendary jazz-fusion night at Birmingham’s Rum Runner nightclub until its closure in 1983. He continued to DJ and gained a reputation for his scratching which lead him to join with Danny Poku (D. Mob, Dancin’ Danny D) and Mambo Sharma to form D.S.M.
The group released two singles for Andy Sojka’s (Automation) Elite label including the track, Warrior Groove. Their tracks were a blend of electro and jazz funk and were highly popular in the UK.
