Sun Atlas – Mystic Parade (7″ Repress) [Mocambo 45-1051]

***PRE-ORDER – Est. 14 March 2025***

Shrouded in mystery, driven by rhythm.

Little is known about the enigmatic collective known as Sun Atlas. Their exact origins remain unclear—some claim they hail from Los Angeles, New York, Addis Ababa, Marrakesh, or even northern Germany—but no one can say for certain. What is undeniable, however, is their razor-sharp fusion of global influences, seamlessly blending afrobeat, ethiojazz, surf, cinematic soul, crime jazz, and funk-infused hip-hop breaks into a sound that feels both timeless and otherworldly.

Their presence is almost ghostlike, with no confirmed lineup and only a handful of recorded tracks surfacing. Their 2019 release, “Mystic Parade”, quickly became a cult favourite among crate diggers, selectors, and deep groove collectors, earning comparisons to the likes of Mulatu Astatke, The Budos Band, and Karl Hector & The Malcouns. The 7″ vinyl, long out of print, became a sought-after rarity.

Despite their near-mythical status, Sun Atlas has left an indelible mark on the underground music scene. Their compositions evoke visions of vintage spy thrillers, desert mirages, and bustling city streets, all wrapped in a hypnotic, break-heavy groove.

Whether Sun Atlas is a band, a studio project, or a collective of globe-trotting musicians remains unknown. But one thing is certain: their music speaks louder than their mystery.

The long-gone 7″ from Sun Atlas, Mystic Parade, is finally available again, offering another chance to own this elusive gem. Now repressed on silver vinyl – Don’t miss it!
