Cherry is the 1972 studio album by jazz saxophonist Stanley Turrentine, who was described by critics as “renowned for his distinctively thick, rippling tone and earthy grounding in the blues”. Turrentine recorded the album together with jazz/bebop vibraphonist Milt Jackson and is produced by CTI founder Creed Taylor. For the recordings of Cherry, Turrentine and Jackson were accompanied by pianist Bob James, guitarist Cornell Dupree, bassist Ron Carter, and Bill Cobham on drums.
The album is probably best well known for the track, “Sister Sanctified”, which appeared on the Ultimate Breaks & Beats albums and was the main sample used by KRS One & Boogie Down Productions for the track, “My Philosophy”.
Cherry is available as a 50th anniversary edition of 1500 individually numbered copies on translucent pink coloured vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve.
